Andrew Whitman, PharmD

Dr. Andrew Whitman is the lead clinical pharmacist in oncology and palliative care at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, VA. He completed a combined Doctor of Pharmacy degree and Certificate of Aging Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy. Dr. Whitman completed his postgraduate training at the University of Virginia Health System in oncology pharmacy followed by a year as a palliative care specialist at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center. His main research interests include deprescribing in older cancer patients and innovative approaches to supportive care.

Binit Shah, MD

Dr. Shah is a movement disorders neurologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of motor control disorders. These include Parkinson disease, Huntington Disease, tremor disorders, cerebellar ataxias, dystonia, Tourette and other tic disorders, and other related disorders. A native of Cary, NC, Dr. Shah earned bachelors degrees in Economics and Computer Science from Duke University, his Medical degree from Wake Forest School of Medicine, then went on to do his neurology residency at Northwestern University/Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He completed a fellowship in movement disorders and deep brain stimulation at the Toronto Western Hospital movement disorders centre. He has been on the faculty at UVa since 2012.

Christa Brooker, PharmD

Dr. Brooker is a graduate of VCU School of Pharmacy, where she earned her PharmD degree in 2018. Prior to pharmacy school, she graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. She completed her PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency at the University of Virginia and is now completing her PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency. Her professional interests include primary care, transitions of care and teaching.

Gabrielle Marzani, MD

Dr. Marzani is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She completed a combined residency in Psychiatry and Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia in 2003 and joined the faculty that year. Her work dovetails medicine and psychiatry. She has been an HIV Psychiatrist embedded in the Ryan White Clinic since 1999. She has also been embedded in the Cancer Center and has worked on the inpatient unit at the University of Virginia where she was also the Medical Director from 2003-2008. She was the Medical Director of UVA's clinical pharmacologic research unit where she oversaw inpatient studies related to the psychopharmacology of addiction. In addition to her practice, she teaches in the School of Medicine which includes a resiliency course for medical students known as The Healer's Art. She teaches in the NP program in the UVA School of Nursing and has a deep respect and appreciation for interprofessional work, education and research.

Susan Kirk, MD

Susan E. Kirk, MD is the Designated Institutional Official and Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at the University of Virginia Health System, where she is also jointly appointed as an Associate Professor in Internal Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a graduate of Douglass College and Rutgers Medical School. She completed her internship and residency, and was chief resident in Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. At the University of Virginia she completed a fellowship, and is currently board certified, in Endocrinology. Her areas of clinical expertise are in diabetes and pregnancy and Transgender Health.

As Designated Institutional Official, Dr. Kirk oversees 110 accredited and non-accredited programs at her institution, including programs in Medical and Medical Subspecialty disciplines, Pharmacy, Chaplaincy, Dentistry, Radiation Physics, Clinical Laboratory Medicine and Clinical Psychology. There are currently 820 graduate medical trainees at the University of Virginia. Since her appointment in 2006, she has developed or overseen many innovative Graduate Medical Education programs to further the educational opportunities for its trainees. She has been a member of the Institutional Review Committee of the ACGME since 2013 and was elected by her peers to serve as its chair until her term ends in June 2020.

She and her husband are the parents of five adult children. She is a member of a 70s cover band and an avid birder.

Phyllis Everett, MSN, RN, AOCN, AGN-BC, NP-C

Phyllis is a nurse practitioner certified in adult primary care, oncology and genetics. She has practiced at her NP owned and operated family practice in central Virginia, Huddleston Health and Wellness, since September 2017. She opened her second practice in Big Island, VA in October 2019. She is also working with HCR-Manorcare, Heartland Hospice, performs in-home health assessments for Inovalon, and is an independent contractor for Admera Health.
She is also the owner of Sapient Health Services, PLLC a consulting service licensed in Virginia and North Carolina specializing in genetic testing services for hereditary cancer syndromes and pharmacogenomic testing.
She received a diploma RN at Norfolk General Hospital School of Professional Nursing in 1979, a BS in Nursing with a Minor in Psychology at UNC-Greensboro in 1983 and her MS in Nursing Administration also at UNC-G in 1988.
She earned two post-masters certificates at Duke, Nursing Informatics in 1997 and Adult Nurse Practitioner with a focus in Primary Care and Oncology in 2005.
Phyllis has published, and her original research has been presented in poster presentations at the national level. She has presented on a variety of topics and the local, regional and national level related to her specialties.
Phyllis was president of the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners(VCNP) from 2012-2014 and was awarded the Distinguished NP Award at the VCNP annual meeting in March 2016.
Phyllis and her husband Mark live in Evington, VA just southwest of Lynchburg and have been there since 1997. Her daughter Lauren has her BSN and works as an operating room nurse at Virginia Baptist Hospital and had her first child and Phyllis' first grandchild in October 2019.
